George Washington The White House Washington D.C. • The White house was first constructed between 1792 and 1800. • James Hoban, an Irish born architect's design was selected. • In 1800 John Adams and his wife Abigail were the first President and First Lady to live in the White House even though the White House was unfinished. • On July 3rd 1775, George Washington was elected Commander in Chief of the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. • George Washington was the first President of the United States. • George Washington became president on April 30, 1789. • With congressional approval, George Washington selected location of our national capital. • Washington DC is named in honor of our first President, George Washington • Washington DC is not considered a part of any state in the union.
