About YFS • A platform for youth to “experience the joy of giving” • Youth For Seva (‘YFS’) aims to: • Inspire youth to volunteer • Connectthem to grass-root level NGOs • Train volunteers to keep them motivated • Orient NGOs to make best use of volunteers • Attracted over 5,000 volunteers since April 2007 • YFS chapters in • Bangalore, Mysore, Bellary, Hubli, Shimoga • Pune, Mumbai • Hyderabad • Bhopal • Coimbatore

Education 1 of 3 Teaching in Government schools, slums and orphanages: • Identified government schools in each area in Bangalore • Conduct regular training sessions for volunteers and orient them • Volunteers select a school that is closest to them and teach a subject they are comfortable with • Teach Spoken English, Computer Skills at schools • Conduct extra curricular activities like quiz, puzzles, games, songs etc. are conducted • Ready training material available for all activities

Education 2 of 3 Computers for Schools (CFS): an initiative that attempts to provide a holistic computer based education to school children www.sites.google.com/site/cfsbangalore • Collect donated surplus/obsolete/unused computers from private sector sources and redistribute them to public schools • Create computer labs in public schools that are centralized and consist of networked thin-clients - resulting in lower installation and maintenance costs. • Install a Free Operating System called Edubuntu primarily written for school children • Provides the educational packages relevant to the profile of the school students. • Provides training to School Teachers and lab staff. • Regularly administers the systems and provide maintenance. • CFS Volunteers visit schools to teach children Computer skills.

Education 3 of 3 How you can help in CFS: • Donate your old computer / laptop • Become a System Administrator in the labs that already have computers • Help kids learn to use computers by taking computer classes on weekends. • Write Free Software to help school children understand their subjects better. - In association with Free Software Movement, Karnataka( http://www.fsmk.org/)

  12. Environment wing @ YFS • Partnered with the movement called The Green Commandos • Partnered with the Art of Livinggroup to engage volunteers in planting saplings and in their neighborhood and adopting them • Working under the guidance of renowned Environmentalist Dr. Yellappa Reddy

Special Initiatives School Kit drive: • Includes School Bag,Ten Note Books, Pen, Pencil and Eraser, Geometry box • Sponsor a school kit for just Rs.250/- • Plan to sponsor 10,000 kits next academic year Charity Sales: • Sale of handicraft and eco friendly products thus helping artisians • Organise charity sales for various NGOs at corporates and apartment complexes Sponsor a Child: • Sponsor a child’s education and healthcare for as little as Rs.500/month • 570 children supported under this program currently • Target to sponsor 1500 children during 2011-12

CSR Partnerships – School adoption • Adopt a government school for improving the learning standards. • YFS deploys one full time teacher per school and one coordinator for 2 schools. • Coordinator handles life skills training, inspires the children and engages other part time volunteers in the school. • Current CSR Partners for school adoption: KPIT Cummins, Phillips Note: All YFS projects encourages the employees from the sponsoring company to take active part as volunteers thus ensuring high level of transparency and ownership.

CSR Partnerships - Healthcare in school • Sponsor healthcare program in a government school • YFS provides doctors from its ‘Doctors for Seva’ team • Medical checkup includes General health, dental, eye,ear and anaemia test • Post-medical checkup followup referrals • Sponsoring company • takes care of arrangement and medicines for camps • provides transportation to take children to hospitals for referrals • Hospitals in DFS network will treat the patients free of charge • Current CSR Partners for school health: BOSCH

CSR Partnerships – Green Clubs • Setup a ‘Green Club’ in a cluster of 10 schools. • YFS deploys one full time coordinator for setting up and running Green Clubs in 10 schools. • Awareness sessions are conducted for all the children in the school about eco-friendly lifestyle. • 25-30 interested students form Green Club. • GC members setup an eco-friendly campus by planting saplings, implementing solid waste management system, recycling and if possible rain water harvesting. • Current CSR Partner for Green Clubs: EMC Data Storage Systems.

CSR Partnerships - Employees • YFS facilitates involvement of employees of a company in various volunteering activities. • The company arranges for 30 minutes presentation to its employees. • YFS would present opportunities for volunteering across Bangalore and connect interested volunteers to projects closer to their homes. • YFS presentations done at: EMC Data Storage Systems, Infosys, KPIT Cummins, Corelogic, BOSCH, Target, HP, Space Matrix, Marvell Labs.

One-Time Activities for Corporates & Employees • Education: • Sponsor a school kit, Sponsor a child’s education • Organize educational trips to Museum, Planetarium, Zoo, etc • Organize issue-based competitions – Environment awareness, First Aid/Safety • Funding of buss pass or school fees for deserving and needy children • Health: • Organise Blood donation camps • Provision of better sanitation, safe drinking water • Sponsoring women’s health checkup • Sponsor one time treatment - eye glasses, dental treatment, lab tests • Environment: • Start a green club at your office • “No Plastics” drive • Train and spread the message of Living a Green Lifestyle • Planting and adopting saplings
