  1. Endangered Species Act of 1973 -Draft Year: 1973 -Amendment Years: 1982 -It is an international act Chris Rellas

  2. Function and Issues Affected • The act provides a program for threatened and endangered plants and animals • The law requires federal agencies to ensure that actions they authorize, fund, or carry out won’t jeopardize the life or well-being of a species listed in the act. It also doesn’t allow people to take any of the listed species. • The act helps to prevent the extinction of animals that are currently endangered and works to prevent new animals from being added to the list.

  3. Groups Responsible for Regulation • The act is administered by two agencies, the FWS and the NOAA. NOAA handles marine species, and the FWS has responsibility over freshwater fish and all other species. Species that occur in both habitats are jointly managed.
