Stress • Stress is what people feel when they get over whelmed. • When we perceive a situation as difficult or painful, changes occur in our minds and bodies to prepare us to respond to danger. • The body gets a faster heart and breathing rate, increased blood to muscles of arms and legs, cold or clammy hands and feet, upset stomach and/or a sense of dread.

Beneficial Stress vs. Harmful stress • Stress is mainly thought to be a negative thing. • Stress is actually helpful to us, depending on how you as a person handles it. • It can either motivate us to get our work done, known as beneficial stress, or it could cause us to crumble depending on how much is on our plate, known as harmful stress.

  4. Stress Male vs. Female • In a study it was shown that females tend to have more stress than males. • They felt depressed and they felt unable to manage with it. • The correlation is seen in both teens and adults.

  5. Causes of Stress • Stress is caused by many things some including:

  6. Stress in Teens • Teens go through more stress than adults. • Some stress causers are: • School demands • Relationship troubles • Low self-esteem • Body changes • Friend problems • Separation of parents • Death of a loved one • Moving or changing schools • Being in too many activities

  7. Consequences of Stress • Stress leads to many things. • This includes: • Anger • Sleep depravation • Headaches • Anxiety • Drug/alcohol use

  8. How to manage stress • To manage stress teens tend to do many things. • Some activities you can try to ease stress is: • Exercise • Video games • Playing sorts • Watching television • Surfing the internet

  9. How to ease stress • When you feel stressed don’t let it get to your head. • Let the stress drive you to finish what you are doing. • Don’t let the stress overwhelm you or else you will do worse in what ever you are doing. • When dealing with stress, relax and take a deep breath.
