  2. Rhodes Scholarshipswww.rhodesscholar.org General provisions: Rhodes Scholarships, the oldest international fellowship program, ordinarily provide for two years of post-baccalaureate study toward a degree at the University of Oxford, in nearly any field.

  3. Rhodes Scholarshipswww.rhodesscholar.org Eligibility To be eligible for a Rhodes Scholarship, an individual must: • be a citizen of a country in which the scholarships are offered, • hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university by the time the scholarship would become tenable, and • be at least 18 but not yet 24 on October 1, 2014, for U.S. applicants, and not yet 25 on October 1, 2014, for Canadian applicants. Rhodes jurisdictions also include Bermuda, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Jamaica and the Commonwealth Caribbean, Kenya, New Zealand, Pakistan, Southern Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

Rhodes Scholarshipswww.rhodesscholar.org Selection criteria Cecil Rhodes’s will specifies four selection standards: • “literary and scholastic attainments”; • “energy to use one’s talents to the full, as exemplified by fondness for and success in sports”; • “truth, courage, devotion to duty, sympathy for and protection of the weak, kindliness, unselfishness, and fellowship”; and • “moral force of character and instincts to lead, and to take an interest in one’s fellow beings” The average GPA of finalists in recent years has been above 3.8.

  5. Rhodes Scholarshipswww.rhodesscholar.org University endorsement University endorsement is required to compete for the Rhodes Scholarships in the U.S. and Canada. Candidates should complete an advising questionnaire (from college.columbia.edu/students/felowships/catalog/rhodes-scholarships)by August 18, 2014. Early submission of the questionnaire allows more time for advising. Endorsement applications are due on August 25, 2014.

Rhodes Scholarshipswww.rhodesscholar.org Application mechanics In the U.S.: • Endorsed candidates apply online by October 1. • Application includes five to eight recommendation letters. • Based on home state or Columbia address, candidates apply in one of sixteen districts. • Districts hold interviews on November 21-22. • Each district designates two Rhodes Scholars-elect. Application includes a photograph. Finalists may be asked for a copy of their birth certificate.

Rhodes Scholarshipswww.rhodesscholar.org Application mechanics In Canada: • Endorsed candidates apply online in mid-October. • Application includes six recommendation letters. • Candidates apply through their home province. • Provinces and/or regions hold interviews in late November. • Provinces or regions designate Rhodes Scholars-elect. Application includes a photograph, a copy of one’s birth certificate, and a health certificate.

OGP fellowships advisors will work with candidates throughout the the application cycle.
