  1. Imperial Commitments and the Influence of the British Commonwealth

  2. During this time the British Empire consisted of India, SE Asia, Caribbean, Pacific Islands, Australia, New Zealand, Canadaand many parts of Africa. Britain were more focused on defending the Empire. This meant Britain wanted to avoid getting involved with situations in the other countries in Europe.

  3. Britain had doubts about the Commonwealth’s Defences. • The British Government knew that The Empire lacked naval power and it would be difficult to gather enough to fight The Mediterranean and the Far East. “Had Britain really got enough As Britain became weaker during ships to defend its Pacific possessions the First World War- the nations and Australia if Japan got aggressive?” of The Commonwealth came to their aid. “Would they do it again?” Britain already knew the answer: South Africa had already said they wouldn’t help. Australia and New Zealand wouldn’t commit. Only Canada would say “Yes”
