  1. Summary of SBS Collaboration MeetingBob Michaels Oct 19, 2012

  2. From Management • Thia Keppel • John LeRose • Hall A beam in ~1.5 years. • Probably not affected by re-baselining • Run schedule presented • SBS – in 2016 (likely Fall) • Support for Magnet, He3 Target, GEM prototyping at UVa • Program Start: Oct 1, 2012 • Milestones and Funding discussed • DOE reports: monthly email, quarterly written report, • yearly external review

  3. Talks about SBS Experiments GEn Gordon Cates GMn Brian Quinn GEpBogdanWojtsekhowski Proton FF Neutron FF

  4. Technical Updates -- I • Adam Sarty -- Coordinate Detector • Seamus Riordan -- Monte Carlo • In front of calorimeter • 1 mm and 1 nsec resolution. • Present plan: 2 GEMs + 3rd plane scintillator (Canadian funding) • 600 PMTs from FermiLab being tested • Neural Network Resolution Study: dp/p = 1.7% • Rates and Acceptance Studies • All consistent with proposals • Bob comment: more joint effort on MC ? (and don’t forget analysis software)

  5. Technical Updates -- II • Susan Esp -- BB Detector Engineering • Huan Yao -- BB Cerenkov (GRINCH) • John Annand -- BB Hodoscope, NINO Discr. • Detailed design, well in progress • Simulation and design -- ongoing. • Start building in early 2013 • Discussed: Tank, window, mirror, PMT array, electron efficiency … • Design, construction • Report on tests with cosmics

  6. Technical Updates -- III • EvaristoCisbani -- INFN GEM Front Tracker • NilangaLiyanage -- GEM Trackers for Polarim. • Huge Italian effort • Large area chamber (40 x 50 cm2 ) • Reported on beam tests at DESY and CERN • GEM Lab at UVa Set Up. Great progress. • Will build 40 modules (50 x 50 cm2 ) • Testing of prototypes underway • Finalizing the design

  7. Technical Updates -- IV • Gregg Franklin -- HCAL • Charles Perdrisat -- New Cal (for GEp) • The design is progressing • Plans for protytping • Reported on Geant4 simulations of energy and spatial resolution, timing, and light transmission in WLS • Showed advantage of a new calorimeter to withstand high radiation • Lead + scintillator plates ( Shahililk design ) • Possibility to use HERA-B calorimeter being explored • Will test 40 Shashilik modules from HERA-B

  8. Technical Updates -- V • Gordon Cates -- 3He Target • Fast DAQ -- AlexandreCamsonne • Aim: 60% at 60 uA for 60 cm target at 12 atm ! • Innovations: Convection cells, double pumping chamber, barrel magnet, and (future) metal end-caps or all-metal chambers. • Reported on simulated in-beam tests of prototype and • progress on designs • Making Fastbus Faster ! And to use new CODA 3 elements • New Test Stand in TEDF • Beginning tests of the “module flipping” (to reduce DT), new CODA3 TI (supports event blocking), and • MQT (allows to use TDCs instead of ADCs), Intel CPU.

  9. Technical Updates -- VI • Robin Wines -- SBS Magnet and Support • The Heart of SBS • 48D48 magnet from BNL. • Good progress on engineering and CAD design of support

  10. More On Experiments • Todd Averett -- A1n • BogdanWojtsekhowski -- Wide Angle Compton Scattering • A “flagship” 12 GeV Experiment • The experiment and plans for preparation were described • Still fresh in your minds … • More great physics that leverages the SBS
