What is Photo Story 3? • One of Microsoft's best kept secrets! • Create slideshows • Photo editing within the program • Special effects • Music and voice narration • Fairly small files you can e-mail, watch on your TV, computer, or on a Windows Mobile–based portable device. • FREE
How can you use Photo Story 3? • Library or class orientation • Teacher or unit introduction • Instructional Video / Tutorial • Photo Sharing • Open House • Digital Storytelling
When you open Photo Story 3 , you will choose one option. Begin a new story, Edit a project, Play a story, or Continue working on the current story Click the radio button for the option you choose.
For each story you can import up to 300 pictures .bmp, .dib, .eps, .gif, .jhif, .jpe, .jpeg, .jpg, .pcd, .pcx, .png, .psd, .rle, .tga, .tif Helpful Hint: create a folder and save all images you might use for a project in that one folder. Highlight all the pictures you plan to use and click OK. You can import all pictures at one time if you want.
Helpful Hint:Save Often! Once you have imported pictures save your project
The first time you save your project, you will need to give it a name and decide where to save it. Save as a project file (default) so you can continue to work.
Images are all imported into a storyboard. Simply click and drag the images to arrange them in any order. Or use the arrow to move pictures one space at a time
Once you have arranged your images there are several options for editing the pictures. Edit Pictures Remove black borders
Edit Pictures Rotate or Crop your pictures.
Simply type your text into the textbox Tools to format your text.
There are other options for changing the appearance of your images. Effects Bar
Any Microphone will work • Built in Microphone on your computer/laptop • Logitech USB Desktop Microphone • USB Stereo Headset
If the sound card on your computer is not configured to record from a microphone, Photo Story may be unable to record narration. In this case, Photo Story prompts you to configure the sound card to record from a microphone. This change may affect other recording programs
Record up to five minutes of narration for each picture! Record Button Stop Recording Delete Narration Text box for notes! Preview slide with narration
Custom Motion Button This number tells you how long the narration lasts for that slide.
Specify the start and end positions of motion Set end and start to same position – no slide movement How long do you want the slide to run? Preview slide
Slide transitions can be determined by the program or by you.
Select Music: Choose music you have saved on you computer. File types: .wma, .mp3, .wav Create Music: with music that comes with the program.
Choices include Genre, Style, Bands and Moods You can even set the Tempo and Intensity of the music.
Saving Your Story Reminder: Save Often!
Choose where to save your story. The default path is to save in “My Documents,” “My Videos” as “PhotoStory1.wmv”
After clicking NEXT, the program builds your story. This can take a few minutes, especially if you have included narration and music.

This icon is the project only. It is a Photo Story .wp3 file. This icon is the movie. It is a .wmv file.

TweakPS for Photo Storyhttp://www.windowsphotostory.com/TweakPS/ This is a utility that can do global changes to the duration of all pictures in a saved PS3 project file, remove the motion settings, remove all transitions, or randomize the sequence the pictures display. Note that the utility is limited to tweaking PS3 files of less than 300 MB in size, and runs only on Windows XP. If you try one larger than that and get a message about it being corrupt when you open it in Photo Story 3, it's because the tweaked project is missing one or more parts.
Combine multiple student PS3 shows into 1 Import the completed Photo Story 3 .wmv files into Movie Maker! drag them to the timeline and save as a single .wmv. To save as a .wmv movie file... Type...Ctrl+P to open the Save Movie Wizard / Choose...My Computer / Next / Enter a Name and a Save Location / Next / Tick...'Best Quality For My Computer' Next/ Wait while the movie is saved / Finish...
