  1. Jesus wants sinners to come to Him!

  2. Matthew 9:9-13

  3. Jesus wants sinners to come to Him!

  4. We need to be intentional in our evangelism. • Friends are wonderful, and they make our lives more full. • “A friend loves at all times” (Prov 17:17). • “There is a friend who sticks closer than a brother” (Prov 18:24). • We must seek to bring those friends to Jesus.

  5. We need to recognize sin. • Jesus says that He came to call sinners to repentance. • Jesus never turned a blind eye to sin. • Jesus to a sinful woman: “Your sins are forgiven” (Lk 7:48). • Jesus to the woman caught in adultery: “Go and sin no more” (Jn 8:11). • People are full of sin. • “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Rom 3:23). • If people have no sin, why bother reaching out to them?

  6. We need to love those in sin. • Jesus loves those at Matthew’s table. • “A friend loves at all times” (Prov 17:17). • “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends” (Jn 15:13). • How do we show love? • We serve others. • We teach the truth in love. • We are to speak “the truth in love” (Eph4:15).

  7. We need to see what people can become. • Jesus has a long history of changing lives. • The gospel has great power to change. • Onesimus was “once was unprofitable to you, but now is profitable to you and to me” (Philem 11). • Paul himself is an example of the power of the gospel: 1 Tim 1:12-16. • Look at your life.

  8. Do you need to be transformed by the gospel this morning?
