Overview of West Virginia General Permits for Natural Gas Compressor Stations
This document outlines the current General Permits (GP) applicable to natural gas compressor stations in West Virginia, specifically G30-D, G33-A, and G35-A. Each permit addresses requirements for controlling regulated air pollutants from eligible facilities, including those with specific equipment like stationary spark ignition internal combustion engines and glycol dehydration units. It is important to note what these permits do not cover, such as glycol dehydrators with condenser controls and produced condensate tanks. Additional clarifications on permit applications and emissions sources are provided.

List of current GP’s • Natural Gas Compressor Station General Permit Number G30-D • The requirements and conditions of this general permit address the prevention and control of regulated air pollutants from eligible natural gas compressor stations. • Natural Gas Compressor Station General Permit Number G33-A • The requirements and conditions of this general permit address the prevention and control of regulated air pollutants from eligible stationary spark ignition internal combustion engines (SI ICE) greater than or equal to 25 hp and less than or equal to 500 hp • Natural Gas Compressor Station General Permit Number G35-A • The requirements and conditions of this general permit address the prevention and control of regulated air pollutants from eligible natural gas compressor stations with glycol dehydration units, flares or other specified control devices. http://www.dep.wv.gov/daq/permitting/Pages/airgeneralpermit.aspx
What the current GP’s do NOT cover • Glycol dehydrators with condenser controls • Tanks that hold produced condensate • Loading emissions into tank trucks for large produced condensate tanks with high throughputs • Well pad locations
IMPORTANT TO NOTE • The G30 series general permits are STILL ALLOWED for compression facilities along gathering lines. However, when there are emissions sources other than those allowed under the current GP’s, the DAQ will require the applicant to apply for a Rule 13 individual permit. • If the applicant is filing for an update or modification to a facility that was erroneously issued a G30 series permit, then the DAQ will require the applicant to apply for a Rule 13 individual permit.
