  1. Protecting and Preventing Lyme Disease The number of reported cases of Lyme disease have significantly increased in the United States in the last decade and especially in the last few years. It therefor becomes important to keep yourself well protected to prevent the same and a few steps can ensure that your chances of preventing the disease altogether are greatly reduced. Cleaning your surroundings: Keeping your surroundings clean and dust free come with a host of benefits and one of them includes cleaning your home and surrounding frequently. As ticks are known to fester and breed in dusty environments, it becomes crucial to clean your home thoroughly, to ensure that you make your house tick free. Protecting yourself when camping: In the United States alone, an estimated 300,000 infections occur every single year. If you enjoy the outdoors, and often go camping, hiking, or if you work in grassy and/or woody places, then you need to take extra precautions as the probabilities of being bitten by an infected tick increases significantly. Consider using an insect repellent: Using an insect repellent is highly advisable, as not only it helps to ward of ticks, but it also helps to keep away other insects that spread diseases, such as mosquitoes that can spread malaria. Insect repellents are widely available and come in the form of a cream, which makes it effective and extremely easy to use. Keeping an eye out for a rash: Let’s assume that you have a rash that just won’t go away. While many may just ignore and neglect the same, chances are that the rash might have been caused due you being bitten by an infected tick.
