  3. Technology is transforming our lives. Facilities Management shouldn’t be an exception.

  4. Technology is constantly evolving. You need to be prepared. 6

  5. Tip #1 Digitize all of your critical building information.

  6. Data needs to be shareable Sharing paper information is inconvenient and time consuming Digital information can be easily shared to accelerate decision-making and action

  7. Data needs to be searchable Technicians need to quickly find information wherever they are working Search and access is possible with modern cloud-based solutions It is nearly impossible to quickly search paper-based information

  8. Data needs to be protected Information stored locally is susceptible to damage from fire, water, critters and weather Floorplans can be lost or damaged when someone removes them Paper documents become worn with repeated use and deteriorate over time

  9. Tip #2 Make sure building information is available through mobile devices for instant access

  10. Nearly everything is accessible via mobile devices. Should your facilities information be any different?

  11. Simple emergencies can become catastrophes When information is not instantly available, situations cannot be contained.

  12. The simple act of locating paper plans wastes valuable time Facilities professionals should be able to access building information anytime from anywhere Walking or driving back and forth for critical building information is an inefficient use of your time.

  13. Tip #3 Your information should be interconnected

  14. Siloed information is difficult to access and time-consuming Most software solutions used in Facilities Management is stored in files and folders Today’s mobile and cloud technology allows easy navigation of complex data

  15. Tip #4 Use technology that doesn’t require extensive training

  16. Any technology we invest in today should be easy to use.

  17. Companies like Google and Apple develop software which incorporates AI and machine learning, while being easy and intuitive for the end user.

  18. An intuitive user interface and positive user experience are key elements for today’s software.

  19. Facilities professionals are already fighting time. Learning a new software is unrealistic and unnecessary.

  20. Tip #5 Avoid custom software

  21. Customizing software is a lengthy, expensive process.

  22. While it may look very attractive at the beginning more often than not it requires updates long before it is even fully implemented

  23. Mobile apps allow us to access information quickly and efficiently from anywhere, anytime. Apps in the world of facilities management is a gamechanger

  24. How do facilities teams avoid getting left behind?

  25. A new approach
