  1. We will begin by making the sign of the Cross Leader: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. All: Amen We pause to think of any special intention we want to pray for today. We light our Form Candle for all our prayers today.

  2. Fourth week of Lent On Tuesday of this week the Cardinals will gather together after they have celebrated Mass together in the Sistine Chapel for the Conclave (literally closed off with a key). This Conclave is held in complete secrecy with 115 Cardinals being able to vote. A new pope must be chosen by 2/3rds of the Cardinals. Each time a vote is made the slips are burnt and so outside crowds wait to see what colour smoke comes out of the chimney! If it is black no pope is chosen, if it is white we have a new pope! The Cardinal must then agree to take on the office of Pope and state the name he is to be known as. The other Cardinals will then come and greet him before he appears on the balcony with the announcement of; ‘Habemus Papam!’ He will then give his first blessing!

  3. This prayer is to be used each day until a new pope is chosen:Father, guide and inspire with your Spirit those who will choose a new Shepherd for your church, as successor of St Peter.
