  1. The Nocciano Institute for Arts & Culture

  2. Travel back to a simpler and more vibrant time in Italy when community and family were at the center of life. Travel with us to Nocciano, a hilltop town in the Abruzzo, where the entire community is family, and where life is still lived as it has been for centuries. Nocciano is located in the Italian region of the Abruzzo. 150 miles east from Rome, Nocciano is nestled between the Adriatic Sea to the East and the 9,000 ft. tall Apennines to the West. The regional capital, Pescara, is on the coast, only a few miles from Nocciano. Where Is Nocciano?

  3. The people of Nocciano are the warmest in the world. Nowhere else can the same hospitality be found than within the commune of Nocciano. Family is central to the people of Nocciano. And now, the entire village of Nocciano has opened its doors to greet the participants of a new series of programs developed by the Mediterranean Studies Association, Inc., and situated in the Castle of Nocciano. Who Is Nocciano?

  4. The Castle of Nocciano Join us in the 12th century castle of Nocciano, where all the Institute’s programs are held.

Students will also be exposed to the history, culture, and important works of art through lectures and a field trip to St. Peter’s Basilica, the Vatican Museum and the Sistine Chapel.

  7. Photography Course Description: Students will focus on experimentation with a variety of photographic techniques. Each student will build a pinhole camera and also use a Holga (plastic camera) to expose film. We will make prints using the techniques of Cyanotype and Van Dyke brown. For students equipped with digital cameras and portable computers we will make “digital negatives.”

  8. Vocal & Choral Music Course Description: CANCELLED A two-week intensive workshop in vocal studies and choral music. 10. Institute students either share double rooms with each other or have their own rooms in local family homes (there are also a few triples). All families who host Institute students have been carefully screened by our on-site representative and by institute staff. The families often have children of their own who are a similar age and are keen to get to know you and share their community with you. The homes are all located within the small town of Nocciano. Students will enjoy meals with their families, but will also get a chance to explore some of the local trattorias or restaurants. Homestays
