  1. Numbers Ratios

  2. Numbers Ratios are a way to divide up a whole quantity. If we had £200 to share out between 2 people it could be split evenly, £100 each. This would be a ratio of? 1:1

  3. Numbers 4:6 The person giving the £200 may want to give more to one person than the other. For every £4 Dave gets, Carol gets £6. This is a ratio of….. To work out how much Dave and Carol are given the amount of money is divided by the total of the ratio.

  4. Numbers 4:6 is a total of 10 (4+6) £200 is divided by 10 = £20 Dave’s share (4) is multiplied by £20 Carol’s share (6) is multiplied by £20 4x£20 = £80 6x£20 = £120

  5. Numbers 3+5 = 8 £640 ÷ 8 Divide £640 in the ratio 3:5 Step 1 Add the ratio numbers = Step 2 Divide the amount by the total ratio = Step 3 Multiply each ratio by the divided amount = = £80 3 x £80 = £240 5 x £80 = £400

  6. Numbers Word Questions!!! These are not hard, you just need to identify the ratio and the amount to be divided up. A recipe for a cake requires 3 cups of flour, 2 cups of sugar and 1 cup of butter. How much flour will be needed to make a 480g cake? Ratio = Total quantity = Quantity of Flour = Flour 3: Sugar 2: Butter 1 3:2:1 = 6 80 480 ÷ 6 = 3x80g = 240g

  7. Numbers A driveway needs to be made from concrete in the ratio of 3 parts stone, 2 parts sand, 1 part cement. 24m3 of concrete is needed to make the driveway, how much of each is needed?
