  2. Before you begin to write an argumentative essay, you must first take a position. What is a position in an argumentative essay?

  3. A position in an argumentative essay is the issue you support or the stand you take for or against something. Example: Snickers is the best candy bar.

  4. When you begin to write your paper, you must first decide on: • an issue you support • an issue you are against It will be your position!

  5. Once you decide on your position, you must create an argument for it. Example: Snickers are the best candy bar because they are healthier than other candy bars.

  6. After you create an argument, you must support it with facts. Snickers are the best candy bar. Position Argument Snickers are healthier than other candy bars. Reason Snickers contain calcium from milk and protein from peanuts. The reasons are your facts.
