ELA with an Aboriginal Focus

This course is designed for Aboriginal learners at GE 8 and 9 testing levels aiming to continue into high school English Language Arts. Content reflects Alberta Education’s grade 9 outcomes with materials honoring Aboriginal realities, culture, and worldviews. Prospective students should have gaps in educational environments or language arts skill deficits affecting academic progress. Class schedule: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10:30-11:45, starting Jan 22-April 19, 2013.

  2. Description This course is designed for Aboriginal learners testing at GE 8 and 9 who desire to continue into high school English Language Arts programming. Content developed will reflect the curricular outcomes of Alberta Education’s grade 9 programming. Materials used in content will be chosen reflective of Aboriginal realities, culture, and worldviews

  3. Prospective Students This course is best suited for Aboriginal learners who have a goal which requires high school English. Potential students may demonstrate the following academic history: • Gaps in continuity in educational environments which have impacted ability to complete high school credits • Specific skill deficits in language arts which have impacted academic progress

  4. Class Schedule • Tuesdays and Thursdays • 10:30 – 11:45 • Options will be made available by the instructor for additional sessions during the week and at the same time. (10:30 – 11:45) - Starts Jan 22 – April 19 2013
