  5. Daily Schedule Morning Meeting Problem Solving: Math Rules& other Problem Solving/Logic activities Unit Study: PETS, Fine Feathered Friends, Going Buggy Language Arts: Junior Great Books Integrating Science and Social Studies Technology: PREZI, Power Point, Word Brain Stations

Morning Meeting The Daily Dozen Almanac- Date, quote, statistic, where in the World, meet and greet, word, nature, joke, funky forecast, question of the day, this day in history, quiz, & current event Social & Emotional Needs

  7. Math Rules is a math enrichment curriculum designed to challenge gifted students by targeting critical thinking and problem solving strategies while building upon what students already know. Emphasis on mathematical discourse within the classroom, problem solving and spirit of inquiry. Math Rules

Reading skills • Critical thinking skills • Writing skills • Research-based • Based on “Shared Inquiry” model use by the Great Books Foundation Research shows that Junior Great Books improves reading comprehension, writing, and critical thinking skills. Exciting literature combined with interpretive activities and Shared Inquiry™ discussion engages all students Junior Great Books

Only people who have read the story may take part in the Shared Inquiry Discussion. • Discuss only the story everyone has read. • Do not use other people’s opinions about the story unless you can back them up with evidence of your own. • Leaders may only ask questions; they may not answer them.   16. Student must fill out their part every AIM day with Daily Schedule, #’s, mark HW, etc. • Teacherwill sign at the end of the day and write comments when needed. • Parent signature needed before coming to class the following week. AIM Daily Purple Sheets

Peer Relationships / Social Skills / Bullies “Gifted children will have moments when they are unavoidably “out of step” with age mates. http://www.nagc.org/index.aspx?id=1212 • Twice-Exceptional (Gifted with Special Needs) “Gifted children, with their high potential and abilities, may also have learning problems that act as a roadblock for the development of their gifts.” How can a child have an amazing memory for airplane trivia but not be able to test well on basic multiplication facts?” More Concerns
