  2. Pages 1-60 • Metaphor- “Tease a full-grown grizzly; but for some reason, Darry seems to like being teased.”pg.9 Mood- how Ponyboy sees Darry • Personification- “The wind blasted through my soaked sweat shirt and dripping hair.”pg.56 Mood- bad time, cold.

  3. Pages 1-60 • The metaphor shows that Ponyboy looks at Darry like a big grizzly bear. Wind blasting through Ponyboy’s sweat shirt shows that it isn’t just a cold night but the people around are probably have a cold atmosphere. In this portion of the book it shows how Ponyboy sees his oldest brother Darry with all him strength and temper problem. It also express how the mood and feeling was the night Johnny and Ponyboy got jumped by the Socs.

  4. Pages 61-120 • Overstatement- “Darry would beat him to death.”pg.61 Mood- what Ponyboy thinks Darry will be like if he found out what Dally was doing for Johnny and him. • Metaphor- “Maybe that lost-puppy look and those big scared eyes were what made everyone his big brother.”pg.88 Mood- the sad way Johnny looks.

  5. Pages 61-120 • The overstatements shows how hard it might be for Darry to control his anger. The metaphor shows that Johnny’s face shows how he feels about things and how bad is life is, so he looks so sad. In this portion of the book Ponyboy is scared of how Darry will act with his low control of temper and he realizes how Johnny’s emotions are written all over his face.

  6. Pages 121-180 • Personification- “Soda was keeping up a steady stream of wisecracks and clowning.”pg.133 Mood- good times. • Overstatements- “Steve had turned up the radio so loud that it almost broke my eardrums.”pg.133 Tone- annoyed.

  7. Pages 121-180 • The personification shows that Sodapop was none stop with his wisecracks and clowning ways. I believe your eardrums can’t brake but they can go out so I figured the music was just so loud he couldn’t hear other people talk, so that shows he was annoyed. These moments show that they have good times, but there is always something that might annoy you during your good times that you are having.
