  1. Energy Efficiency in Housing and Small BuildingsHVAC & SWH Progress Report - SCEEB April 20th 2011

  2. HVAC • HVAC • Proper sizing of system and ducts with 9.32 and 9.33 • HRVs • Not required for dwelling units • Where installed, min. thermal effectiveness required 60% at 0°C • Required for dehumidification of interior pools (60%, 55%, 45%) • Require dampers, thermostats • Control to prevent simultaneous heating and cooling • Specific heat pump controls for supplementary heating. • Piping installed as per 9.33.8 • Outside ducts and piping insulated to above-grade wall • Discussion of exception for factory-constructed houses

  3. HVAC and Service Water Heating • HVAC and SWH • Energy Efficiency Act absolute floor performance • minimum equipment efficiencies • Gas Furnaces: 92% (AFUE) • Oil Furnaces: 85% (AFUE) • Standards and performance for other technology will be referenced: • heat pumps, • integrated systems • Combo systems (water and heating) *

  4. Service Water Heating • Service Water Heating • minimum equipment efficiencies • electric, gas, oil • tankless/storage tank type • solar water heaters included • pool heaters included • combo systems (water and heating) • storage tanks and re-circulating pipes need to be insulated • heat traps are required on top of water tanks

  5. Service Water Heating • Pipe insulation for outside and unconditioned spaces • Recirculation piping to 0.8 m2 °C/W • Controls for • temperature of storage tank • shut down of pool heaters • Solar domestic hot water system installation according to NPC and NBC Part 4
