  2. Friday, February 24, 2012 • Daily goal: • Understand the significance of the ICC, Populism, Plessy v Ferguson and Jim Crow Laws. • Notes Analysis-Use your 3.4 Notes to explain how Individualism, Social Darwinism and Herbert Spencer explained success and failure during this time period.

  3. ICC • The ICC was the first federal law to regulate businesses.

  4. Think about it… • Do you feel like the Republicans and Democrats are capable of solving the problems which you face? • Do we need a real 3rd party in America?

  5. The Farmers plight • Farmers embraced populism a movement to increase their political power and began the People’s Party. • The party supported a graduated income tax which taxed higher earnings more.

  6. Rise of Segregation • In the South Jim Crow Laws were passed which segregated the races.

  7. Plessy v Ferguson • Homer Plessy sued that the separate car act violated 14th amendment. • The Supreme Court ruled that “separate but equal” and segregation were legal.
