Only one out of ten people receive treatment Treatment in the U.S. ranges from $500 per day to $2,000 per day The average cost for a month of inpatient treatment is $30,000 Individuals with eating disorders need 3-6 months of inpatient care Health insurance companies do not typically cover eating disorders

  4. What do doctors look for? • Body Weight less than 15% below expected • Intense fear of weight gain • Body image disturbance • Amenorrhea in females (loss of period)

  5. Symptoms of Anorexia Nervosa Lanugo hair (Baby hair) Amenorrhea (Loss of periods) Cold intolerance Dehydration Abdominal discomfort (i.e. bloating, cramping, constipation) Denial of illness
