  1. Welcome to Second Grade! Mrs. Andrade Mrs. Holton Ms. McVea Mrs. Sanford

  2. Homework Homework is due the following day. Coming soon: Second Grade Wiki! • Scholars will have homework Monday thru Thursday nights. • Every scholar will be responsible for recording homework in their planner daily.

  3. Behavior • Scholars will bring home a report of their behavior daily in their planner. • Please discuss behavior with your child nightly and make plans for improvement if necessary. • Please sign the planner daily! • Everyone has received a Student Handbook & Code of Conduct. • Each teacher has a different behavior system, please check with them if you have questions.

  4. Behavior Notes • Please support your teacher by discussing what your scholar did wrong and what they could have done differently. • All behavior notes are to be signed and returned the next day.

  5. Absences • All scholars should be in school everyday. • Your child will miss a great deal of learning if absent, much of which cannot be made up. • Each time your child is absent a note must be sent within 3 days explaining the absence. • If a child has a chronic ailment with a doctor’s note, the parent must still send a written excuse for each absence.

  6. Absences • Each student is only allowed 8 parent note absences. **This is a change** • After the 8th absence each parent note absence is counted as an unexcused absence. • Doctor notes are an excused absence.

  7. Progress Reports • Twice a month your student will bring home a progress report in a red progress report folder. • Please sign the red folder and send it back the next day. You may keep the progress report at home. • If you would like to review a particular test, you may send a note and we will send it home. However, it must be returned the next day.

  8. Conferences • Each scholar and parent will have a conference with their teacher. • The first one will be before the Thanksgiving holiday. • Teachers are available by appointment only, before and after school, as well as during our planning period (8:20).

  9. Field Trips • 2nd grade will go on 2 field trips this year. • Parents may go as chaperones as space allows. No siblings, please. • Please allow your student to attend our fun outings.

  10. Accelerated Reader • Accelerated Reader tests are comprehension tests taken on library books where points are earned toward a goal. • Each scholar will read and take tests from books on their reading level. All scholars at Dixon are expected to meet their AR goal each quarter.
