  3. What is…. • Anatomy Physiology Anatomical Terminology

  4. ANATOMICAL TERMS • Do you know what the following words mean??? • ~ superior • ~ inferior • ~ proximal • ~ distal • NO??? Well click here!

  5. Anatomy • The branch of science that deals with the morphology (structure) of body parts. This includes their form and their location.

  6. Physiology • The branch of science dealing with the functions of the body parts. In other words, what they do and how they do it.

  7. Circulatory Muscular Systems C D E E I L M N R R S • Digestive • Nervous • Endocrine • Reproductive • Excretory • Respiratory • Integumentary • Skeletal • Lymphatic This is the home page.

  8. Circulatory System FUNCTIONS: • Transports gases, nutrients, hormones, and waste. • Carries oxygen

  9. Digestive System FUNCTIONS: • Receives food from the outside and break it down. • Produces hormones.

  10. Endocrine System FUNCTIONS: 1. Secretes chemical messengers called hormones.

  11. Excretory System FUNCTIONS: • Removes wastes from the blood. • Helps maintain the body’s water and electrolyte balance.

  12. Integumentary System FUNCTIONS: • Protects underlying tissues. • Helps regulate body temperature. • Houses sensory receptors. • Synthesizes certain products.

  13. Lymphatic System FUNCTIONS: • Transports some of the tissue fluid back to the bloodstream. • Carries certain fatty substances away from the digestive organs.

  14. Muscular System FUNCTIONS: • Causes body movement. • Maintains posture. • Main source of body heat.

  15. Nervous System FUNCTIONS: • Uses electrochemical signals to communicate . • Can detect changes inside and outside the body.

  16. Reproductive System FUNCTIONS: 1. Produces offspring.

  17. Respiratory System FUNCTIONS: • Takes air in and out. • Exchanges gases between the blood and the air.

  18. Skeletal System FUNCTIONS: • Provides framework and protective shields for softer tissues. • Attachments for muscles. • Aids in movement. • Produces blood cells & stores inorganic salts.

  19. To learn more about some of these systems…..
