  1. TVG425 Transport Stream Gateway Product update – May 2013 Nevion Confidential

  2. Nevion - Video Gateway product portfolio Nevion Confidential

  3. TVG425 is ideal for moving MPEG Transport Streams – throughout the broadcast chain • Contribution and distribution of MPEG transport streams containing pre-compressed MPEG-2 and/or MPEG-4 services • Flexible interfacing to accommodate IP and legacy transport networks • Satellite Production Broadcast Nevion Confidential

  4. TVG425 example application • Bidirectional transport of up to 8 TS over IP • You may think of the TVG425 as a “TS router” with ASI, dual Gigabit Ethernet, STM-1/OC-3 and E3/T3 interfaces Nevion Confidential

  5. Applications – what can TVG425 be used for? • Contribution and distribution of TS over IP • MPEG-2 Transport Stream interface adaptation (ASI, IP) • Primary distribution in DVB-T and DVB-T2 systems • Contribution to satellite uplinks and head-ends • Managed video services with built-in input TS monitoring • Bridging of ASI or TS/IP signals over STM-1/OC-3 or E3/DS3 links • Applications for bridging IP networks with different functionality • Control + Two GigE Data interfaces available • Multicast to unicast/smallcast conversion • Unicast to multicast conversion • FEC insertion Nevion Confidential

  6. Primary distribution in DVB-T SFN networks • In DVB-T, the SFN adapter inserts MIP packets to sync transmitters in an SFN region • MIP includes bitrate and timing information (relative to common 1 PPS reference) • The 1 PPS external reference is used on TVG425 lock the ASI output to the correct bitrate • Prevents IP jitter from migrating to the ASI output • Important for modulators with small input buffers, since loosing sync has a big impact: > 20 sec down time for modulator re-sync, several minutes of downtime for full high-power transmitter re-sync Head-end Transmitter sites (1:N) Nevion Confidential

  7. ASI over IP with built-in TS monitoring • Full visibility into transport streams being handled by unit • Integrity check of input streams according to ETR 101 290 Nevion Confidential

  8. Multiple IP unicast/multicast output streams • Enables point-to-multipoint transmission over IP networks in scenarios where multicast can not be used • Maximum number of IP destinations is 8 per output TS • Up to 8 output TS per TVG425 (licensed 1-8) Nevion Confidential

  9. Dual network interfaces for TS over IP • The TVG425 is equipped with two Gigabit Ethernet interfaces for data • Enables video transmission over physically separate network paths • This feature provides link redundancy but not device redundancy • For 1+1 device redundancy several solutions are possible (nSure TNS541/TNS544) Nevion Confidential

  10. Conversion between IP unicast and multicast • Signal hand-off on IP presents new challenges to broadcasters and network operators, since IP networks with different functionalities must be bridged. • Multicast is not always possible, in which multiple unicast outputs can be used • Incoming unicast can be converted to multicast for onward distribution • New ST 2022 RTP stream and FEC is generated on output of TVG425 Nevion Confidential

  11. Automatic input switching • The TVG425 supports input source redundancy • Multiple ASI inputs, IP inputs, or a combination of ASI and IP • Automatic switching on loss of input signal • Sync loss on ASI (switching time is < 10 ms) • Empty input buffer on IP (switching time depends on IP buffer size) • Switching on critical input port alarms (TR 101 290 Pri 1) Nevion Confidential

  12. TVG425 features – that were also available in TVG420 • ASI to IP Gateway for 8 Transport Streams • SMPTE 2022-1/2 CBR TS over IP encapsulation and FEC • Widely supported standard in industry – great interoperability • Fully bidirectional on port-by-port basis • Advanced IP, VLAN and QoS/Cos support • SFN operation with output resynchronization to 1PPS reference Nevion Confidential

  13. TVG425 features – novel features • ETSI TR 101 290 Level 1 input monitoring • Dual Gigabit Ethernet interfaces for data • Fully flexible routing of signals from any input IF to any output IF • Multiple output copies on IP & ASI • IP-to-IP applications – such as unicast-to-multicast - with FEC • Hitless switching with dual networking and IP Diversity reception • Automatic input switching between redundant TS sources • Extended FEC implementation to recover from long burst packet loss (50 ms) Nevion Confidential

  14. Summary of inputs and outputs Transport Stream outputs (1-8 per unit) ASI inputs/outputs (1-8 per unit) TS over IP inputs (1-16 per unit) TS over IP outputs (1-8 per TS) Automatic input switches (1-8 per unit) Nevion Confidential

  15. TVG425 back panel 1-8 ASI input or output ports FastE GigE GigE Power Alarm 1PPS/10MHz SFP USB Note: SFP interface is 1000Base-X, while RJ-45 data ports are 10/100/1000Base-T Nevion Confidential

  16. Management • Web user interface • SNMP for monitoring and configuration (SNMP v2c) • TXP for monitoring and configuration (HTTP/XML protocol) • IP access to management functions • Out-of-band - separate Ethernet ports for MGT and DATA • In-band - common Ethernet port, may use separate VLANs • Serial interface • USB port for debug purposes Nevion Confidential

  17. What’s new in version 3.0? • Hitless switching with IP diversity reception ... to provide 100 % uptime in case of link failures • Extended FEC matrix sizes ... to cover up longer IP burst packet losses • Input ASI bitrate limitation ... to ensure that IP links are not oversubscribed • Support for 204 byte TS packets ... to support primary distribution in ISDB-T terrestrial systems • DC output on loss of input signal ... to trigger a downstream ASI failover switch • Replacement of lost TS packets with stuffing packets ... to try and keep DTT transmitters in an SFN region alive even though IP stream has intermittent data loss • Hot upgradable software licenses ... to activate new streams (TSOX) without requiring a unit reboot • Load configuration directly from another TVG425 ... to save time during setup and commissioning Nevion Confidential

  18. Hitless switching with IP diversity reception • TVG425 TX sends identical RTP streams on two IP links (path A and B) • TVG425 RX receives packets from main and redundant link • IP diversity reception enables hitless protection on packet loss and link failures • Buffering on TVG425 RX must be higher than the difference in latency on paths A and B • Allows broadcasters to utilize less expensive unprotected circuits and achieve high availability Nevion Confidential

  19. Extended FEC (compared to standard 2022-2) L Columns • Column FEC • Corrects 1 lost datagram in each column • Burst loss up L datagrams can be corrected • Column and Row FEC • Correct 1 lost datagram in each row • Burst loss up L+1 datagrams can be corrected • Considerable improvement for random loss 2 1 2 3 4 5 .. L R L+1 2L R XOR R D Rows R R R F L*D R XOR XOR C C C C C C C Media datagram Column FEC datagram Row FEC Datagram Lost datagram F R Nevion Confidential

  20. What’s new in version 3.2 and 3.4? • Embedded Redundancy ... to provide 1+1 sender redundancy in a hot-standby configuration • RIP-2 messaging ... To support network-controlled multicast source redundancy Nevion Confidential
