Patterns in soccer By: Kelli and Jen
Tubes • Two way transport: movement from one end of the field to the other • Linear strength: linear passes to create plays
Borders • Separation: the sidelines separate the field from “out-of-bounds” • Defense and keeper act as “obstacles” that the other team needs to pass through
Layers • Organization: different positions • Can be a 4-4-2, 4-3-3, etc. • Power and control between the players • Functional wholes: each player can function on their own, but put together, they make a team
Centers • The midfielders act as the center • They are mostly in the center of the field • They direct play and act as both offense and defense, holding the team together
Arrows • Flow of play • Sequence of plays that a team puts together helps move the ball down the field in the direction they want it to go
Breaks • When players get subbed out; changes the dynamics of the field • Half-time is a literal break. The team can regroup and change their mindset and tactics.
Triggers • Certain actions/occurrences can trigger actions by players • Ex: • Fights • Good sportsmanship • Foul play • Confidence boost (from a supportive crowd)
