UVIC cloud chamber • General drawing notes: • * Red tubing – discharge • * Purple tube – suction and/or evaporator • * Yellow tube – oil line to compressor • * Orange tube – discharge (separator to heat exchanger) • * Hi temp stage – R134A (approx 10oz) • * Low temp stage – R508 (approx 100-120PSIG) • * All access ports will have caps (not drawn) DEC,10 2008 Mechanical questions Reply to: Mark Lenckowski kram@uvic.ca

  2. Cloud chamber mechanical (iso) Cold stage evaporator

  3. Cloud chamber mechanical (front) Heat exchanger Cold stage refrigeration Approx 32” Warm stage refrigeration

  5. Warm stage circuit (iso)

  6. Warm stage circuit (front) SUCTION: (purple) 3/8” tube X 92” long Q1: is two loops OK for vibration control? Q2: is 5/16” tube an option? DISCHARGE: (red) ¼” tube X 52” long Q3: is two loops sufficient for vibration control?

  7. Warm stage circuit (left) .042” capillary tube 90” long This feature is copied from pictures of Scientemp equipment. Q5: Is it an expansion chamber or Filter dryer? Q6: If a filter dryer, is 100 mesh size to be used? Schrader access valve SAE ¼” flare (discharge side) Q4: Is this style of valve OK on the discharge circuit? Shut-off/access valve (packed) with SAE 3/8” flare port. Henry 7763-B valve or equivalent. Q7: Is this an acceptable style of valve? Q8: Is this location acceptable? Filter dryer to keep capillary tube clear (drawn as 1” X 6” size) Q9: Is 100 mesh size good to use? Q10: Is the size (volume) acceptable Q11: does filter dryer need to be vertical or is about 30deg OK?

  9. Cold stage circuit (iso) Evaporator cold stage * 5/16” tube X 230”long * 22” OD X 2” pitch spiral coil Q12: Is 3/8” tube too big?

  10. Cold stage circuit (front) Evaporator cold stage 5/16” tube Discharge: ¼” X 16” long Suction: 3/8” tube X 69” long Oil return: ¼” tube X 23” long Suction: Q13: is two loops OK for vibration control? Discharge: ¼” tube X 35” long Q14: is two full loops OK for vibration control?

  11. Cold stage circuit (left) Capillary tube: .036” X 90” long Filter dryer (drawn as 1” X 6” size) Q15: Is 100 mesh size good to use here? Q16: Is the size (volume) acceptable? Q17: does filter dryer need to be vertical or is about 30deg OK? Schrader access valve SAE ¼” flare (discharge side) Q18: Is this style of valve OK on the discharge circuit? Shut-off/access valve (packed) with SAE 3/8” flare port. Henry 7763-B valve or equivalent. Q19: Is this an acceptable style of valve? Q20: Is this location acceptable?
