  7. The role of the scribe Educational Assessment Unit Directorate for Quality and Standards in Education The scribe facilitates the examiner’s access to the child’s written component. The examination assistant can ask the child to read out words which are totally illegible. The EA writes in a coloured biro the word the child intended writing but which is misspelt to such a degree that it is rendered illegible.
