  2. Personality • Hermes was a great communicator and negotiator. • Very trustworthy. • Charming. • He was very creative and has the mental quickness to match his physical quickness. • Very friendly. • Was handsome and very athletic.

  3. Hermes • Hermes is the known as the messenger god and the god of the roads. • Due to all his travels, he really doesn’t have a place of residence, but he is based in Olympus. • His domain of rule would have to be the roads.

  4. Symbols • The things that are representative of Hermes are the caduceus(staff with two intertwined snakes, his winged boots and his winged hat.

  5. Family • Father- Zeus • Mother- Maia • Hermes had over 30 kids, 9 of which are immortal. • He had many siblings because he was the son of Zeus. • He also had many lovers, but most famously Penelopeia, what gave birth the god Pan.

  6. Weapons • His weapons are pretty much the same as his symbols. His winged boots allowed extremely fast travel and also allowed him to travel over water. The helmet of darkness(cap of aidoneus) allowed the wearer to become invisible. Hermes also had a golden blade.

  7. Special Powers • Hermes is the fastest of all the gods. • He a master of thievery. • His caduceus can force people to sleep.

  8. Occupations • Hermes official job was Zeus’ personal messenger, then messenger of all the gods. • He also received the title of Psyhcopomp. This gave him the job of guiding souls of the underworld. Hades gave him the privilege that almost nobody had, being able to leave the underworld.

  9. Myth: Invention of the Lyre • On the day he was born, Hermes crawled out of his cradle and found a tortoise. He then banded strings across it’s back to create the lyre.

  10. Myth: Argos Panoptes • Zeus sent Hermes to free Io(a lover) from Argo Panoptes(the hundred eyed giant). He first tried to sneak by by dressing as shepherd. When this failed, he lulled it to sleep and killed it with his sword.

  11. Allusions • Hermes caduceus is now used as a symbol of the medical industry. It was thought to bring good deities and peace. • He is in the logo of the Florist Transworld Delivery. This is probably to show how fast there delivery service is.
