    2. This workshop has been designed to help you do three things.

    3. We give tests for 4 primary reasons.

    4. Multiple choice items are comprised of 4 basic components.

    23. A well-written item is characterized by: Only 1 ‘best’ option Plausible distracters Similar option lengths (key and distracters) A stem that is clear and positive A question format or a blank at the end of the stem Lack of options such as ‘All of the Above’ and ‘None of the Above’

    24. Provide only 1 ‘best’ option. Improved Item

    25. Create plausible distracters. Improved Item

    26. Construct options of similar length. Improved Item

    27. Write a stem that is clear and positive. Improved Item

    28. Use a question format or a blank at the end of the stem. Improved Item
