NILU – Norwegian Institute for Air Research NILU is an independent foundation established in 1969 NILU has around 200 qualified and motivated researchers, technicians and other experts NILU conducts about 250 research projects every year for government, industry and international organizations. NILU has participated in more than 120 EU-FP research and development projects. NILU-Kjeller NILU-Tromsø

Atmospheric and Climate Research (ATMOS) Knowledge about how natural and man-made emissions affect the atmosphere's chemical and physical properties is central for understanding climate change and air pollution. ATMOS is working on air pollution on regional (European) and global level, greenhouse gases and their drivers, transport of volcanic ash, ozone layer and UV.  The department is also carrying out extensive international collaboration and serves as data center for a range of measuring and research programs. NILU within FUTUREVOLC • Improve existing methods and develop new methods for • retrieval of volcanic ash and sulphur dioxide concentrations from • satellite and ground-based multi-spectral infrared (IR) measurements. • Analysis of IR data from satellite and ground-based multi-spectral IR • cameras to retrieve ash and sulphur dioxide concentrations • Lead WP8, Distribution and description of eruptive products.
