    1. GEF Financed Projects and Lessons Learned in the Caribbean

    2. Main Projects under implementation

    3. Project Pipeline for GEF-4

    4. Some results   Countries have built a series of projects over time to address BD conservation in critical ecosystems, building on previous successes e.g. Sabana Camaguey Projects have produced valuable inputs useful to broader or other processes e.g. EAs, and capacities are stronger SGP is active in all countries of the Caribbean region and has produced important lessons and experience re working within a decentralized strategic framework

    5. Key challenges Involving countries in the region in complex design and implementation processes for regional projects Transaction costs of monitoring and supporting relatively small national projects over a wide area Codifying and disseminating knowledge gained from project implementation and incorporating into policy dialogue Upscaling/mainstreaming successful experiences i.e. from SGP projects

    6. Lessons learned Capacity constraints in the region are significant and countries require robust support in both project development and implementation Because of capacity constraints, it is critical to identify and build upon synergies between projects and programs in each country Sub-regional cooperation needs to be strengthened to provide for cross-fertilization between countries and greater cost-effectiveness, and to overcome capacity constraints.
