Common Core Standards, Instruction, and Assessment • Challenges • New standards, shifts in instructional pedagogy, changes in assessment approach and delivery – all at the same time • Opportunities • Gift of time to try things out and take risks • Field test = maximum student, teacher, and administrative exposure to assessment experience Data and Assessment Network

California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress • Consortium CCSS-aligned assessments in ELA & Math at grades 3-8 and grade 11 SBAC Field Test • Science assessments in each grade span (3-5, 6-9, 10-12) CST/CMA/CAPA @ 5, 8, 10 • Alternate assessment in ELA & Math CAPA 2-11 • Early Assessment Program in grade 11 using consortium ELA and Math assessments CST • Plan regarding additional assessments including primary language tests and other content areas Data and Assessment Network

Accountability: API • 2013 API • Base will be same as growth • Will produce rankings but no growth targets • 2014 API • Will recommend NOT producing any APIs for 2014 (to SBE in March or May) • 2015 Base API • New assessments + new high school indicators • New “n” for numerically significant groups (30 for all groups except Foster Youth which is 15) • RAN HO in EdModo Folder Data and Assessment Network

  5. Accountability: AYP • Elementary & Middle • No new AYP for 2014 and no new PI determinations • High School • AMOs for ELA & Math based on CAHSEE & CAPA + Graduation rate (API will be removed as additional indicator) • 2014 AYP and PI determinations in Fall Data and Assessment Network

Accountability: SARC • Due February 1 • Three options • CDE-developed Web Application • Will be automatically posted on internet and district can place a link to www.sarconline.org on school websites • CDE-developed Word Template OR Locally developed or vendor application • PDF copy must be uploaded to www.sarconline.org; school can link to website or link to PDF Data and Assessment Network

CALPADS • CALPADS student data used for high-stakes purposes including funding, assessment, and accountability • Pulled from both certified data AND operational data store (ODS) files • Review certification reports, ODS reports, and data warnings • Routinely update CALPADS • RAN HO in EdModo Folder Data and Assessment Network

Purpose of the Project • Gather formative evidence that can help identify areas where students are successfully progressing toward meeting the common core standards and areas in which teaching and learning need to be strengthened • Provide samples of tasks reflecting the emphases and rigor of the common core standards • Collect and share benchmark samples of student work reflecting various levels of performance Data and Assessment Network

What IS the Project • Extended response tasks • English Language Arts: Grades 3, 7, 10 • Mathematics: Grades 4, 8, 11 • Voluntary participation by district or by school (district choice) • Centralized scoring of a representative sample • Return of original work to sites, with rubrics and annotated anchor papers, for local scoring and analysis Data and Assessment Network
