Before You Start, You Will Need… • An Idea! • An involved faculty mentor. • Should advise on the structure of the presentation and scope of scientific information utilized • Can be from outside MUSoD, but must be an active participant in the process • To contact Dr. Hodgson via email to get your idea approved.

3. Ways To Fulfill Your Requirement • 1. Participation in a formal research project • 2. A review of current research or information in a basic, clinical, or applied topic • 3. An “expanded” rounds presentation • 4. Attendance at an appropriate professional meeting • 5. Serve as a Journal Club discussion leader

Ways to Fulfill Your Requirement • 1 Participation in a formal research project (by yourself or with friends) • Under supervision of Faculty or Graduate Student mentor • Deliverables: • Oral Presentation at a Journal Club meeting • Poster Presentation at February Research Day • Poster Presentation at an approved Research Meeting (AADR/ADEA/Midwest Dental Research Conference) • Publication • Contact Dr. Hefti for faculty and graduate students currently needing assistance • External program options: MNCrest Research Fellowship, Rochester PhD Program.

5. Ways to Fulfill Your Requirement • 2. A Review of Current Research or Information in a Basic, Clinical or Applied Topic • Peer Reviewed Journals, PubMed • Deliverables • A Poster regarding the outcomes of this review presented at MUSoD Research Day • Journal Club Presentation • Contact Individual faculty for advice and approval

6. Ways to Fulfill Your Requirement • 3. An “expanded” rounds presentation identifying an evidence-based rationale for possible treatment alternatives or provides for treatment of a particular case. • This requires a strong basis from scientific literature for the conclusions drawn. • Deliverables • Rounds Presentation at a Journal Club Meeting

7. Ways To Fulfill Your Requirement • 4. Attendance at an appropriate professional meeting that results in an approved exposure or experience that expands the research/scholarly knowledge base of the individual. • Appropriate meetings: • Chicago Midwinter • Annuaal ADA Meeting • ADEA/AADR • Deliverables: • Oral and PowerPoint presentation at Journal Club Meeting • Contact Dave Griffith for available dates

8. Coordinate meeting attendance with Dr. Hefti and Dr. Vitolobeforehand. • Suitable topics, formats and activities will be selected and outcomes identified.

9. Ways to Fulfill Your Requirement • 5. Serve as discussion leader for the monthly SRG Journal Club presenting a topic and 1-2 recent articles regarding that topic. • Under the leadership of a faculty mentor • Deliverables: • PowerPoint presentation aid • Contact Dave Griffith for available Jounal Club dates

10. I’ve Done a Project- Now What? • Treatment Plan M9900 in Axium-take to Black P • Print off Treatment Plan, sign it. Get Dr. Heftito sign it. • Turn Treatment Plan into Dr. Wells’ Office
