  4. If you had a chance to choose a place for your holiday, where would you like to go?

  5. Choosing a Holiday Read the advertisements and listen to the dialogue. Which holiday do Ricky and Shulah choose?

  6. Ricky and Shulah choose “White – Water Experience”.

  7. Read the four advertisements and find out which holiday you are most interested in.

  8. Showing Interest (II) Listen to how Ricky and Shulah show that they are listening to each other? Really? Mm, Yes? Right, That’s true, No, Yeah, I know.

  9. Listen again and repeat the words and sounds.

  10. You have won a holiday. In pairs, choose which one to go on together. Follow the stages on page 30.

  11. Think about the following 4 kinds of activities and then decide which one they prefer and why. 1. a visit to the Temple fairs 2. Happy Valley (欢乐谷) 3. Disneyland 4. theme parks for wild animals

  12. Read the Camp Xtreme brochure and match the paragraphs (1-3) with these headings. a) The main features b) Introduction c) What’s special?

  13. How to write a Brochure • Use the front cover, or front panel, to your advantage by including an eye-catching photo or graphic. • 2.On the inner panels, use headings to break up long blocks of text. • 3.Stress the benefits of your product(s) instead of just naming the features.

  14. 4.Address the reader as “you” to establish a relationship with the reader. 5.Keep your brochure content focused. 6.End the brochure with a call to action.

  15. Find examples of these brochure writing styles in the text. Using opinion words to make the product/service sound more exciting. Writing directly to the reader, i.e. “We can help you.” Using facts to make the product more real. Keeping the writing as simple as possible by dividing the text into sections.

  16. Imagine you work for an adventure camp. Write a brochure for your camp. Follow the following 4 stages of writing. Stage 1: Make notes about your adventure camp by answering the questions below.

  17. 1. What is the name of your adventure camp? 2. Where is your adventure camp? 3. What is the place like? 4. What activities can guests do at the camp? 5. What facilities does it have? 6. What makes your adventure camp special?

  18. Stage 2:You should be clear about the layout of a brochure and what to write about and how to write it in each section. The layout of a brochure: (Para 1) Camp name and opening statement — Write a catchy line to attract the readers’ attention. Example:The best adventure holiday you’ll ever have!

  19. (Para 2) Introduce some of the camp. Such information as location, size, or even comments about the camp can be included in this section. Example: Camp Xtreme is located on a private beach on the beautiful coast of Scotland.

  20. (Para 3) Describe the main features of service your camp provides. Example: We’ll teach you survival skills, where you’ll learn how to make a fire and build your own shelter.

  21. (Para 4) Mention something that distinguishes your camp from other similar ones. Example: We are the only camp in the UK to offer survival skills training from real experts.

  22. Stage 3: Refer to the useful vocabulary and the writing style to finish writing your brochure. Stage 4: Check your brochure.

  23. You should pay attention to the following questions when checking. 1. Did the writer write directly to the reader as if he or she is talking to them? 2. Has the writer used facts to make the product or service more real or genuine?

  24. 3. Has the writer used opinions to make it exciting? 4. Did the writer remember to divide the information into small sections using bulletin points?

  25. Listen to the radio programme about Marek Kaminski and answer the questions. 1. In what year were Marek’s two most famous journeys? 1995.

  26. 2. Why did Marek call his North Pole exploration “Poles to the Pole” and his South Pole exploration “A Pole to the Poles”? In the first expedition, there were two Polish explorers; in the second there was only one.

  27. 3. What difficulties did he have on his journey to the South Pole? 4. Why is Marek not a “typical” explorer? High winds and low temperatures. Because he has many other interests.

  28. 5. Why does Marek go on exploration trips? 6. What does he think is the key to a successful exploration trip? He wants to test the limits of what humans can do. Your intelligence and your dreams.

  31. look, see, watch, observe, witness 这些动词均有“看”之意。 look侧重“看”的动作。 see指看见。 watch指用眼睛跟随某物,以便对每一个 变化、运动等进行观察。 observe侧重以客观的态度进行观察。 witness指当场看见,亲眼看见。
