Miss Arbuckle Goes to College! When I was 9, I became involved with the Indianapolis Children’s Choir. I was able to travel the world singing. I rehearsed on Butler University’s campus for the next 9 years. Butler became my second home. The picture below shows me singing a solo at St. Peter’s Basilica I grew up going to Earlham College once a week (Richmond, IN). While my brother had orchestra practice, I played on the campus and explored buildings. There are two things I wanted to do in my life, be a teacher and be involved in music/theatre. In high school, I enrolled in cadet teaching and worked in a 2nd grade classroom. I also taught private piano lessons and conducted a children’s choir at a local church. I was involved in theatre productions and choirs throughout high school. I wanted to be involved in as many activities as possible to expand my knowledge and to make me attractive to college recruiters. I also strived to be in the 10% of my graduating class (630 students). I always knew that I wanted to go to a small, liberal arts school. My high school guidance counselor told me to apply to at least three colleges. I was accepted to Hanover College (my mom and brother are both alumni), DePauw University, and Butler. There was no competition between the colleges. I knew that I wanted to go to Butler. They had the best education program and a world renowned music program. It was a win-win situation! I graduated with a major in Early/Middle Childhood Education and a minor in music. We also have a great Basketball team! 2 year Runner Ups in the NCAA!
