  1. ISUAL Integration, Test, and Calibration Overview H. Heetderks / S. Harris / S. Geller

  2. Test Program Goals • Verify that Instrument meets all Performance Requirements • This Process is Summarized in the System Requirements Verification Plan • Identify and Eliminate Subtle Design Defects (e.g. S/W-H/W Interaction) • Test in as Flight-like a Configuration as Possible • Operate in many different Modes • Test over a long duration • Verify that Instrument Design will Function in the Spacecraft Environment • Qualification Vibration • Thermal Vacuum • Radiation Analysis • EMC Testing • Verify Workmanship • Acceptance Vibration • Thermal Cycling • Acceptance Thermal Vacuum NCKU UCB Tohoku Integration, Test and Calibration Heetderks

  3. System Requirements Verification Plan • Describes our Verification Philosophy • Our Drawing Number 8820-W7 Currently at Revision A • Contains an Interface Requirements Matrix Keyed to the Document: System Requirements for the ISUAL which is included as Appendix II of the NSPO ISUAL Contract with UCB • References each Section Number of Appendix II • Generates a Verification Requirement • Specifies the Level of Assembly as well as the Test and Test Method • Items can be verified by Analysis, Inspection, Test, or Demonstration • This Document was delivered at the time of the CDR NCKU UCB Tohoku Integration, Test and Calibration Heetderks

  4. Test Plans and Procedures • Plans for Testing at each level of Assembly • ISUAL Instrument • ROCSAT2 Spacecraft • Launch and Early Orbit • Test Plans include • Requirements on the Test • Test Approach • Facilities and Special Equipment • Also includes Test Process, Test Conditions, and Overall Test Flow • Test Procedures include • Fixtures Required, Test Sequence, Equipment used, Safety Considerations • Data Point/Location/Type and Test item Configuration • Preliminary Plans and Procedures were delivered at the time of the CDR as our drawing number 8823-W7 Rev A NCKU UCB Tohoku Integration, Test and Calibration Heetderks

  5. Flight Unit Integration and Test Flow Chart NCKU UCB Tohoku Integration, Test and Calibration Heetderks

  6. Integrated Flight Unit Performance Tests NCKU UCB Tohoku Integration, Test and Calibration Heetderks

  7. Electrical and Software Functional Test • Starts with First Assembly of ETU Power System and DPU • Test begun with basic software functions only • Hardware and Software Grow together as Additional Parts are Added to the System • The Mature System at the ETU Level is then used as a Test Bed for Flight Boards and Subassemblies as they are Developed • System is used to Develop Test Procedures used for Verification during Environmental Testing • The Primary function of this test is to eliminate design bugs • System is exercised in as closed to Flight like Conditions as Possible to Identify Subtle Errors and Interactions in the Hardware and Software • Testing is done in ambient conditions only NCKU UCB Tohoku Integration, Test and Calibration Heetderks

  8. Science Performance Tests • Consists of a series of tests defined in the following presentation • Verifies Science Performance requirements defined in Contract Appendix II • Also addresses science issues which have arisen after the start of the contract • Includes quantitative measurements of key instrument parameters • A portion of these test will be repeated as the final calibration of the flight instrument • These tests are done in ambient conditions only NCKU UCB Tohoku Integration, Test and Calibration Heetderks

  9. Thermal Vacuum Test • Test is done on the Flight Unit only • Testing is based on the Electrical and Software Functional Test with the addition of a fixed diffuse light source inside the vacuum chamber • Temperature range and number of cycles will be per contract specifications NCKU UCB Tohoku Integration, Test and Calibration Heetderks

  10. Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Test • Test is done to a modified version of Mil-Std-461 which as been provided by Astrium, the spacecraft contractor • The test article consists of the complete ISUAL flight unit including the flight harness in a flight-like configuration • The test will be performed at the facilities of a local testing house with UCB personnel operating the instrument NCKU UCB Tohoku Integration, Test and Calibration Heetderks

  11. Calibration • The final calibration is done following all manufacturing operations including installation of the flight Actels and conformal coating of circuit boards • The procedures and test set-ups used are the same as those of the Science Performance test • Primary Calibration of the Array Photometer will be Done by Tohoku. UCB will do a System Level Verification Check only NCKU UCB Tohoku Integration, Test and Calibration Heetderks

  12. Test and Fabrication Facilities Used for ISUAL • SSL ESD Controlled Electronics Fabrication Area • SSL Large Thermal Vacuum Chamber • SSL Medium Thermal Vacuum Chamber • Bell Technologies Inc. Vibration Test Cell • TBD Commercial EMC Test Facility • SSL Atmospheric Emissions Group Electronics Test Lab • SSL Atmospheric Emissions Group Optics Test Facility • SSL Atmospheric Emissions Group Software Development Lab NCKU UCB Tohoku Integration, Test and Calibration Heetderks
