  1. Heads or Tails

  2. The boring stuff (math) • Probabilities are average frequency rates • We can’t calculate probabilities by one experiment , but through multiple (rule of large numbers) • When a probability isn’t an average frequency rate of near infinite experiments the probability is called Empirical Probability

  3. What are the probabilities of a coin toss??? • Most people believe that the probabilities are 50-50 • The a group of students at the Stanford University(statistics department)found out that the odds are in fact 52-48 • The slightly “luckiest“ side is the one that actually faces upwards

  4. How did they find out that this is the case? • They calculated the odds via physics • They repeated the experiment on various catapults, which were designed for this particular experiment • They ran an algorithm in a statistics program

  5. But what happens if one spins the coin??? • The odds are 90-10 • This happens due to center of gravity being closer to the heads side • Thus the coin most likely will end up tails

  6. Could I always win??? Well…….YES,BUT you would need : • a tinkered coin or… • the point of pressure always being at the same spot

  7. If you ever want to trick your friends or always want to win the bet, I hope this was useful

  8. Thank you for your attention • Spyros Koulouris • MariosDimaratos • AntonisKontopoulos
