  25. Partial Discharge Testing • Partial Discharge Testing can detect insulation defects (as result of installation or manufacturing) or insulation deterioration due to normal operating conditions • Partial discharge testing is a PREDICTIVE, qualitative analysis tool that can warn of potential upcoming failure • It can locate problem areas (cable, splices, terminations, bus insulation, contamination) in all medium voltage systems • Partial discharge test results can be trended over time. The overpotential type testing is a “go-no-go” test (cable either fails or not).Unlike traditional overpotential testing, partial discharge testing is not destructive to the insulation system.

  26. On-line Partial Discharge Testing • Partial discharge testing results can help predict future performance and reliability of critical assets (5KV and above) • OLPD Testing is an essential piece of a system maintenance program to meet reliability / uptime objectives • Equipment to be analyzed: • Power Distribution Systems Operating > 5KV • Shielded Cables • Cable Accessories (Terminations & Splices) • Switchgear • Large Motors and Generators

  27. Electrical Systems are Engineered Electrical systems are designed. Any modifications need to be evaluated and calculated. Engineering is necessary to help find the root cause of lost performance in existing assets, extend the life of equipment, and improve system protection and personnel safety. • Short Circuit / Coordination Studies • Power Quality • Load Flow Studies • Harmonic Analysis • Power Factor Studies • Grounding Studies • Transient Stability Studies • Voltage Imbalance / Regulation Studies • Power System Reliability Studies • System Efficiency Assessments • Arc Flash Studies
