Globalization is a phenomenon of increasing worldwide interconnectedness that combines economic, cultural and social change (OECD, 2009) • HEIs produce skilled workforce and contribute to research base and innovation capacity which determines competitiveness in knowledge-based global economy. • HEIs foster mutual understanding and assist in building global networks for future. • Cross-border flows of ideas, students, faculty and financing, coupled with developments in information and communication technology are changing the environment for higher education. • It implies both increased collaboration and competition between countries and institutions on a global scale Directorate General of Higher Education Ministry of Education and Culture

The cross-border mobility of students, faculty, programs, and institutions tends to grow • Academic research tends to become an international research collaboration. • Quality assurance becomes a concern. The number of external quality assurance agencies in the world increases. Other attributes may be taken in account to assess the quality of HEI as benchmark is student attainment or how well graduates do in the employment market. • Spread of a commercial model in higher education, implying strong growth in private higher education provision and financing.   19. STUDY PERMIT FOR FOREIGN STUDENT Study Permit is provided by Directorate of Higher Education Institutional Enhancement through Division of Higher Education Collaboration for foreign students to study in Indonesian Universities.

  20. Service for Study Permit A service for Study Permit is a regular service done by the Directorate of Higher Education Institutional Enhancement, Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education for foreign students. The permit is required to apply for a student visa or/and Temporary Staying Permit (ITAS) in order to be permitted to study in Indonesia. The Student Visa and ITAS are provided by Directorate General of Immigration, Ministry of Law and Human Right. INTERNATIONAL STUDENT PERMIT

KNB in Brief • Scholarship of KemitraanNegara Berkembang (KNB) is an Indonesian Government Scholarship aiming at supporting the human resource development at less developing countries. • The KNB Scholarship Program is a form of soft diplomacy of Indonesian Govt in the field of education. Through the program, the scholars can obtain not just only the academic knowledge, but also social experience and knowledge about Indonesia comprehensively. In addition, the program can also strengthen bilateral collaboration with the recepient countries. • The KNB appication and information can be accessed via online at www. knb.ristekdikti.go.id
