  3. It’s decision time! Knowledge forms the basis for decision-making Social actors, interfaces and stakeholders are constantly confronted with and by decisions they take Decisions must and can be ‘quality assured’ Tools about how to quality assure decisions exist and should be disseminated to decision-makers An emerging knowledge based economy relies on quality assured decisions by all actors mentioned above K Jurgens November 24-25 2008 Ankara Turkey

  4. Food for thought 1 Finland and the creative economy Finland has a Committee for the Future – I suggest Turkey should have one, too The Finnish committee is run by Parliament It says a society must be caring, equal, provide confidence, communality, be encouraging, defend individual freedoms, promote creativity, allow visionaries, balance these eight = the meta-level and act meaningful K Jurgens November 24-25 2008 Ankara Turkey

  5. Food for thought 2 Polarization and Conflict ‘We live in a society in which conflict is part of our everyday life. Further, the current tendencies towards more polarized societies announce that this process is on the rise. We observe recurrent conflict among social, political, ethnic or religious groups, as well as among regions and nations. Even at the individual level we see a large number of disputes that end up being resolved in the courts with social costs’ www.polarizationandconflict.org K Jurgens November 24-25 2008 Ankara Turkey

  6. Food for thought 3 How many symbolic analysts do we really need? What is a knowledge worker? Who can become a symbolic analyst? How many must continue manipulating machines, not symbols? K Jurgens November 24-25 2008 Ankara Turkey

  7. Food for thought 4 Lord Dahrendorf on Inequality Freiheit oder Gleichheit von Lord Ralf Dahrendorf‘Wenn wir wirklich Freiheit wollen, sind soziale und wirtschaftliche Ungleichheiten ein legitimerund notwendiger Preis dafür.’ K Jurgens November 24-25 2008 Ankara Turkey

  8. Food for thought 5 Education, Education, Education Whereas not everyone will earn millions or become Prime Minister everyone must have theoretically the chance to do so But should education be egalitarian – in other words ‘must everyone attend LSE or ENA?’ K Jurgens November 24-25 2008 Ankara Turkey

  9. Food for thought 6 The missing link in Turkey – a powerful middle class Middle classes may be boring in outlook but form the backbone for a democracy and should amount to no less than 70 percent of a society K Jurgens November 24-25 2008 Ankara Turkey
