  1. ESRI Community Analyst Mapping, Reports and Custom Geometry Milwaukee County Land Information Office

  2. ESRI Community Analyst • From ESRI: • Community Analyst is a Web-based system that allows you to view and analyze demographic, public, and third-party sources of data to better understand the overall community in question and make better policy decisions. • Community Analyst can help answer the following: • Where should money and resources be targeted for a greater impact? • What population and what kind of people will be impacted by a policy decision? • What are the demographic trends for which we need to plan?

  3. ESRI Community Analyst • Interpretation: • “Business Analyst Light” • Analyzes demographics surrounding an area, with particular focus on consumer metrics • Many reports are limited in terms of the size of geographic areas that can be analyzed • Example: you can’t get a list of all businesses in the City of Milwaukee • Doesn’t mean that it isn’t powerful!

  4. ESRI Community Analyst • Basic Community Analyst Functions • Maps from Data • Reports from Geographic Areas

  5. ESRI Community Analyst • Basic Mapping from Data • Maps from Data • Color Coded Maps • Demographics, households, education, business, etc. • Source: US Census, ACS, Dun & Bradstreet, etc. • Smart Map Searches • Analyze multiple variables • Business and Facilities Search • DEMONSTRATION: • Basic Mapping in Community Analyst

  6. ESRI Community Analyst • Basic Geographic Reporting Types • Around one location (e.g. development site) • Within a geographic area (e.g. improvement district) • Around numerous points • Basic Demographic Types • Population (Age, Income, Spending, Tapestry) • Retail Market Reports (Retail Segment Potential, General Market Analysis) • Business Analysis (Type and Location) • Informational Maps (Satellite, Traffic Count) • DEMONSTRATION • Basic Geography Reports

  7. ESRI Community Analyst • Integrating with ArcGIS Online • Use your own geography • Save Locations • Run Reports • DEMONSTRATION • Custom Geometry

  8. ESRI Community Analyst • Opportunities are almost Endless • What’s lacking is imagination as to the power of Community Analyst • The solution: demonstrate Community Analyst to Economic Development leaders • One example: • Supervisor District Application • Application shows business growth opportunities within Milwaukee County Supervisor Districts • Other applications could be built to highlight opportunities for parks, schools, non-profits, transportation, community support… all that’s needed is a drive to embrace the technology • Please feel free to contact us with ideas or if you want to try out Community Analyst!
