  2. Early Life • Helen Levitt was born in August 1939. She grew up in Brooklyn. She is widely known for her “Street Photography” around New York City.

  3. Her start to Photography: Helen Levitt got her start in street photography. She purchased a Leica camera and took pictures of chalk drawings and the children who created them.

  4. Her Fame: These photographs were published in 1987 as “In the Street: Chalk Drawings and Messages, New York City 1938-1948.”

  5. Height Of Success: • Her photography was put in the museum of Modern Art in 1939. She Lived in New York City and remained active in photography for nearly 70 years.

  6. My Personal Opinion: • Helen Levitt was intrigued by the things around her. Many people would look past the little things. She took time to notice and really appreciate the simple artwork of the children. Through the busy streets of New York City, she found simple art and shared it with the world.
