  2. Time and God (3:8) • Address: Beloved • Too much evidence has escaped the mockers • You are too important to God – do not miss this point • Admonition: Be not ignorant • Do not let this escape you! • God is above time – Hecreatedit

  3. Time and God (3:8) • Explanation: Psalm 90:4 • The passing of time does nothing to His promise • Not so with men… • Do not judge God through the limitations of the flesh

  4. Faithfulness and God (3:9) • Refuting a false charge • He is not slack – loiter or delay – He waits due to mercy • Concerning His promise – singular • As some men – Here is the truth: GOD IS NOT AS WE ARE!

Faithfulness and God (3:9) • Explaining the truth • Longsuffering – The unbelievers disregard this • Us-ward – He cares (1 Peter 5:7) • God uses time for GRACE (Titus 2:11-14) • Not willing – This is His real nature!! • Repentance – our part – woe to those who do not repent! • All – no one left out • Should come – which means that someone must GO

  6. Certainty and God (3:10) • The Occasion: The day of the Lord (John 5:28-29; 1 Th. 5:2; 2 Th. 2:2) • The Certainty: Will come • Emphatic – Whatever else does or does not occur: THIS IS CERTAIN • The longsuffering will “expire”—so will time and opportunity…

  7. Certainty and God (3:10) • The Method: As a thief in the night • Suddenness – without warning (Lk. 12:39; Mt. 24:43-44; Rev. 3:3; 1 Th. 5:2) • The Result: Do the mockers care to dwell on this?? • The very basis of most people’s lives will CEASE TO EXIST… (Heb. 11:3; Gen. 1: Ps. 33:6,9)

  8. How Foolish To: • Live for Time – Not Eternity (v. 8) • Listen to Mockers – Not His Promise (v. 9) • Be of This World – And Not Be ready (v. 10) (Matthew 7:13-14; 11:28-30)
