Leeds for Life Leeds for Life (https://leedsforlife.leeds.ac.uk/login.aspx) • Use Leeds for Life to: • arrange and support your personal tutorials • find out what skills employers are looking for • find opportunities within and outside your course to develop and add to your skills, making yourself more employable. • seek opportunities for funding to undertake travel and to pursue interesting project ideas (apply to the Leeds for Life Foundation). • help your personal tutor to write job references for you (it will record your transcript and details of meetings during your time at Leeds and for five years after you graduate).

  3. Employability • You need to actively engage with improving your CV to improve your chances of employment/post-graduate study • Make sure you have a productive summer • Be prepared to engage with the level 2 careers module next year • Go to the careers centre to find out what support they can give you • Year in industry option • Meetings will be held in year 2 • A year in industry can significantly increase your employability • Many ‘interns’ find opportunities with their employers on graduation • The School has some placement contacts but you should also investigate your own

  4. Student Portfolios • You will have received an assessment file at the start of the year • Should have been filling it with your coursework and feedback as it has been returned to you throughout the year. • It is your responsibility to submit the completed portfolio to the School • Submission: 24th May, 12pm to 1pm and 2pm to 3pm, Vis Lab

  5. Learning Outcomes • Year 1: • Bring everyone up to speed with concepts, theories, practical skills. • Year 2: • More detailed, subject specific studies. • Learn and apply key, subject specific analytical methods and tools • Learn to critically evaluate the methods used to generate data and the data itself

  6. Advice on option choices • In the first instance, look at the descriptions of the modules available on the web • If you want general information, ask your programme manager or personal tutor • For detailed information contact the module leader • Check pre-requisites and timetable • You are strongly encouraged to enrol before the deadline date because of lower and upper limits on optional modules • Think not only about what you enjoy, what lecturers you like, and difficulty, but also what you will need for future employability/career options

  7. Credits & Levels of Study • You must have a minimum of 100 credits at each level of study in order to graduate • NB LEVEL of study NOT year of study • You must check that you are enrolled for 120 credits for next year.

  8. Fieldtrips: dates for your diary • There will be a compulsory fieldtrip, usually during the Easter break • Easter vacation is 16 March – 15 April 2013 • Please DO NOT book a holiday during this time until fieldtrip dates have been confirmed
