  1. Acts 3:1-10 • Now Peter and John went up together to the temple at the hour of prayer, the 9th hour. And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called beautiful, to ask alms from those who entered the temple; who, seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, asked for alms.

  2. Acts 3:1-10 • And fixing his eyes on him, with John, Peter said, “Look at us.” So he gave them his attention, expecting to receive something from them. Then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.” And he rook him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.

  3. Acts 3:1-10 • So he, leaping up stood and walked and entered the temple with them-walking, leaping, and praising God. And all the people saw him walking and praising God. Then they knew that it was he who sat begging alms at the Beautiful Gate of the temple; and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.

  4. Unashamed unafraid Unwavering undeterred Being BOLDChristians

  5. The Set Up – Acts 3:1-10 • 3:00 pm • Beggar laying at the gate • Lame since birth • 40 years old • Seeking donations • Peter says “ Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.”

  6. Acts 4:1-4 • Now as they spoke to the people, the priests, the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees came upon them, being greatly disturbed that they taught the people and preached in Jesus the resurrection from the dead. And they laid hands on them, and put them in custody until the next day, for it was already evening. However, many of those who heard the word believed; and the number of the men came to be about 5,000.

  7. The Problem– Acts 4:1-4 • Peter and John are arrested • Why? For preaching Jesus Christ • The religious leaders want nothing more than for the crowds to forget all about Jesus

  8. Acts 4:7-12 • “By what power or by what name have you done this?” Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers of the people and elders of Israel: If we this day are judged for a good deed done to a helpless man, by what means he has been made well, let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole.

  9. Acts 4:7-12 • “This is the stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone. Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

  10. The Trial– Acts 4:7-12 • “By what power or by what name have you done this?” • What is the one answer the religious leaders ABSOLUTLY do not want to hear? • Not only does Peter say, Jesus Christ, but he says “Jesus Christ WHOM YOU CRUCIFIED, whom God raised from the dead.

  11. The Trial– Acts 4:7-12 • It was THIS Jesus who healed this man • The “stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.” – Psalm 118:22 • You rejected Him, killed Him, but God raised Him and it is ONLY through the name of Jesus that we can be saved.

  12. Is This Peter? • The one who denied Jesus 3 times? • Why is he so BOLD? What happened to him? • The resurrection happened • The fact that Jesus is alive and sitting at the right hand of God changes everything.

  13. Let us Share Peter’s Attitude • Not afraid to speak the truth • Doesn’t care what they WANT to hear • Does not hesitate • Does not stumble over his words • Does not sugar coat the truth • Peter spoke the truth and only the truth

  14. Acts 4:13-14 • Now when they saw the BOLDNESS of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they realized they had been with Jesus. And seeing the man who had been healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.

  15. Acts 4:15-18 • …They conferred among themselves, saying, “What shall we do to these men? For indeed, that a notable miracle has been done through them is evident to all who dwell in Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it. But so that it spreads no further among the people, let us severely threaten them, that from now on they speak to no man in this name.” …they commanded them not to speak at all or teach in the name of Jesus.

  16. The Plan – Acts 4:15-18 • Severely threaten them • Command them to NO LONGER TEACH JESUS • Is it going to work? • Would it work today?

  17. Acts 4:19-21 • But Peter and John answered and said to them, “whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you more than God, you judge. For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.” So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding no way of punishing them, because of the people, since they all glorified God for what had been done.”

  18. Their Response & Our Response • Peter and John – Cannot help, but talk about what we have seen. • Us today – Cannot help, but tell everyone about the savior who has set us free from our sins.

  19. Acts 5:28-29 • “Did we not strictly command you not to teach in this name? And look, you have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine and intend to bring this Man’s blood on us!” But Peter and the other apostles answered and said: “We ought to obey God rather than men.”

  20. Acts 5:28-29 • 1 – They filled Jerusalem with the doctrine of Christ even though they were told to be quiet • 2- “We ought to obey God rather than men”
