  4. Who is General Aung San • Bogyoke Aung San is a Burmese revolutionary, nationalist and the founder of the modern Burmese army called Tatmadaw. He is an instrumental hero in bringing about Burma's independence from British colonial rule; however, unfortunately he was assassinated six months before his final achievement. He is recognized as the leading architect of Burma independence, and the founder of the Union of Burma. • Affectionately known as "Bogyoke" (General), U Aung San has still widely admired by the citizens of Burma, and his name is still invoked in Burmese politics till these days.

  7. Assassination • Gen. Aung San (a father of Aung San SuuKyi) and other independence leaders were assassinated by Galon U Saw of a rival political group on July 19 in 1947. • The assassinated cabinet members were General Aung San, ThakinMya, Dedoke U Ba Cho, Abdul Razak, U Ba Win, MahnBaKhaing, U OhnMaung and MaungHtwe.
