  2. Green Solutions • In our school district schools are currently using Styrofoam trays which are harmful in many ways.

  3. Disadvantages of Styrofoam • Styrofoam contains a known Carcinogen • Styrofoam is not bio-degradable • Styrofoam is also non recyclable • Chemicals in Styrofoam can leech into food and harm humans

  4. Advantages of Going Green • Styrofoam alternatives are recyclable • These alternatives are also bio-degradable • These alternatives do not contain any harmful chemicals

  5. Solution 1 • We have developed two alternatives to using Styrofoam. Solution number one includes using plastic trays and reusing them.

  6. Solution 1 continued • We at Seckman Middle School made solution 1 work, by having kids wash the dishes and earning incentives.

  7. Solution 2 • Our second solution includes buying Bagasse trays which are recyclable and bio-degradable and very comparable in cost. These trays are available for purchase at www.worldcentric.org .

  8. Cost Analysis • The Projected savings for the café per average 174 day year by switching to plastic trays is $5568 • On an average day we are saving $27 • In an average week we will save $160 • In an average month, $618.66

  9. Trash Cost Analysis • If we use QRS recycling we will save a projected $11.33 a week in trash cost.

  11. QRS Recycling Plan • Our plan includes using the services of QRS Recycling Company. They provide recycling services they provide recycling hoppers.
