  1. Luke 5 1 One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret, with the people crowding around him and listening to the word of God,

  2. 2 he saw at the water's edge two boats, left there by the fishermen, who were washing their nets. 3 He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat.

  3. When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, "Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch."

  4. 5 Simon answered, "Master, we've worked hard all night and haven't caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets."

  5. 6 When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. 7 So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.

  6. 8 When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus' knees and said, "Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!" 9 For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken, 10 and so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon's partners.

  7. Then Jesus said to Simon, "Don't be afraid; from now on you will catch men." 11 So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.

  13. What do people need to survive eternally? TRUTH

  14. It is very common in these days to hear the mention of a mysterious gap supposed to exist between the "head" and the "heart."

  15. The thinking is, of course, that the mind, the intellect, is the "head," while the "heart" is the feelings or emotions. It is assumed, therefore, to be possible to have "head knowledge" without "heart knowledge."

  16. While I am ready to be the first person among us to declare the need to feel and to experience faith in Jesus Christ, I'm concerned that some believe this can be done without employing the intellect.

  17. Luke tells us in Acts 2:42 that those in the early church were "continually devoting themselves to the apostles' [doctrine] teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer."

  18. doctrine is teaching.

  19. Paul gave the following instructions to Timothy in 1 Timothy 4:13: "Until I come, give attention to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation and doctrine."

  20. Paul exhorted Timothy to "preach the word" in 2 Timothy 4:3, because the time would come when people would no longer endure "sound doctrine." (I think those times have come!)

  21. Jesus said in Matthew 4:1 says, "But in vain do they worship Me, teaching as their doctrine the commandments of men."

  22. Paul told Timothy in 1 Timothy 6:3, "If anyone advocates a different doctrine, and does not agree with sound words, those of our Lord Jesus Christ, and with the doctrine conforming to godliness, he is conceited and understands nothing..."

  23. Hebrews 13:9 tells us not to be "carried away by strange doctrines."

  24. I could go on, but I think I've made my point. Frankly, I'm appalled when some person supposed to be a spokesman for the teaching of Christ, looks me in the eye and says in a condescending tone, "I don't get hung up on doctrine!"
