  1. Available: adj- easy to get; ready to use; not gone. The salesperson said the jacket was available in black, brown, and white.

  2. Bondage: n-the state of being a slave Harriet Tubman was born into bondage; which means she was born a slave.

  3. *establish: v- to set up or begin Established in 1636, Harvard College, now part of Harvard University, is the oldest college in the United States.

  4. Establish: v- to show to be true. Scientists have established beyond any doubt that smoking causes cancer and other diseases.

  5. Establishment: n-something that has been established, a place/business. Many restaurants, stores and other establishments now ban smoking.

  6. Liberate: v-to free Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation liberated slaves.

  7. Numerous: adj- a large number; very many. The bus makes numerous stops before it leaves us at school.

  8. Oppose: v- to be against or to act against. Shawn, my best friend will oppose me in the tennis finals.

  9. Prohibit: v- to forbid by law or order. The law now prohibits smoking in many public places.

  10. Accomplish: v- to complete successfully. I know I will accomplish these tasks by noon.

  11. Accomplishment: n- something requiring skill and/or determination completed successfully.. Helen Keller’s huge accomplishment was to learn how to read and speak.

  12. Experiment: n- a test to prove or discover something. The experiment shows that oxygen and hydrogen combine to form water.

  13. Experiment: v- to carry out experiments.* to try out new ideas or activities. Ex: Benjamin Franklin experimented with a kite to show that lightning was a form of electricity. *The chef experimented with a new recipe.

  14. Flimsy: adj- not strongly made; easily damaged or broken. The cart was too flimsy to carry such a heavy load.

  15. * Not believable Saying your dog ate your homework is a flimsy excuse for not turning in your homework.
